Mine was doing the samething. Ended up being the fuel pump housing was cracked. It sits on top tank under your back seat. Once I had it replaced, smell is now gone. Hope this helps

When filling up your car with gas to full tank, do not keep on topping up gas after the nozzle clicks once. The gas will over flow into the charcoal canister & eventually over fill and spill out onto to the ground. It could also throw engine light & cause incorrect purge flow. Charcoal canister is hooked up to the vacuum system and purge flow solenoid.
