Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The car overheats, the coolant
fan won't come on, the temp
gage pegged out then dropped
below c, what is the problem?

If the temperature goes way up and then drops way down and then does it all over again then the problem is probably a bad thermostat.

Your coolant fans ties in with the thermostat and your coolant temp sensor.the temp sensor turns on the fans when reached a certain temperature cools down the coolant then turns off.
