If your dashboard BRAKE light is on when your emergency brake is off, it usually means you need to add brake fluid. Check the level and add some fluid as needed. If the light still doesn't go away, you should probably take your car in to have the brake system properly diagnosed.

Could be an issue with the hand/emergency brake cable or sensor switch. Could also be as suggested above with the brake fluid being too low. The brake fluid level you can easily check yourself, but the rest should be checked by any local garage with a lift.

I have done all of the above to my 2003 model. Even replaced one wheel bering (which had already been replaced by Buick @ 40,000 miles because of the faulty ones installed at the factory). I have replaced pads and rotors. Have had the brakes inspected by a reputable mechanic who verified they were in perfect working order. This has gone on for over two years, maybe three. All I want to know is how to disconnect the annoying signal (ding, ding, ding)l even if the light stays on. The ABS hasn't worked since Buick replaced the front wheel berings in 2006. I have had to make emergency stops on many occasions, without a problem. Is there a way to disable that alarm?

If you unhook the drivers side door speaker the chiming should stop, however the lights will still come on. If it is an all wheel drive there is a sensor in the rear-end that is more then likely bad and the fluid needs to be changed.

If after checking the brake fluid level and brake reservoir and its sensor, as well as the parking brake, then the problem could very possible be a broken wheel sensor wire. That was my problem in my Buick rendezvous, and my great mechanic fixed it.

I bet if you trace the plug from the side of master cylinder downwardat least one is broken. I repaired one that had same symptoms and found the wires had gotten broken but no idea how it happened. I was the only one working on the vehicle til this voodoo happenedd
