2002 Buick Rendezvous fire

Asked by Dean102565 Jul 12, 2019 at 10:44 PM about the 2002 Buick Rendezvous CXL AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2002 Buick Rendezvous would not accelerate.
It caught fire underneath the back end. The fire
department said the parking brake was stuck...I
never use the parking brake. Now the mechanic is
saying my car won't go into reverse at all. Can this
be related to the fire?

Yes the main cause of damage was the ebrake being locked on till the point youre car calught fire, essentially by locking up an awd vehicles rear wheels you are making the transmission engine differential go under extreme stress, everything was fighting eachother, id assume you have more then transmission damage and you should have more looked at

Also the reason you're car would accelerate is because the rear breaks, if you havent have a recent caliper replacement they probably seized while you were just driving (there for you didnt have to have the ebrake on) without the break calipers properly serviced, they can corrode and lock up.
