WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?!

Asked by Jennafonz Jun 06, 2016 at 08:43 AM about the 2001 Chrysler Sebring LX Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Recently i have purchased a 2001 2.7 V6 Sebring for $2100.00. It wasnt
my first choice but it seemed to be free of engine issues and cosmetically
The car had been taken care of both inside and out. no dings rust etc, the
paint is still nice. The carpet was clean and clearly they had seat covers
before me. Another plus is that it only has 141,000 miles on it. What a deal
right? ...WRONG ! After owning it for only a month i  was out running
errands locally and suddenly at a red light the temp gauge went to "H" and
steam from the hood so i pulled to the side quickly turned it off and popped
the hood. i waited about 10 min started it again only to move it  about
20yards to a parking lot and called AAA. Several hours later my BF took on
the challenge of rebuilding this himself (and a friend who has done this kind
of thing before).Pure Crazy but thank you for saving me lots of $ :) So now,
every piece that i see has this burnt on thick greasy goop. the PCV hose
had to be chiseled out!!! And the list goes on. What a mess.so can
someone please tell me what the hell happened!!!! could i have caused all
of that damage? O  like with that PCV hose like that, would the car even
pass a smog test? please help me

there is no help for owners of those old Chrysler products- anything after, oh, I'd say, 1974

I know this is harsh. Junk it call a salvage yard or sell it for parts, move on to a NONE Chrysler now Fiat owned, vehicle worst of U.S. manufactures.. read before purchase your next vehicle..WHO cares, what happened you can waste a lot of time(over $ 2100) determining" MAYBE" what happen to a poorly designed engine!
