Subaru engine swap
Asked by cole Aug 20, 2019 at 11:37 AM about the 2000 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport
Question type: General
I have a 2000 Subaru Impreza outback sport. I
have a motor from a 1997 of the same make and
model. The wiring harness from the 97 doesn't
have the same plugs. Any ideas on a work around.
Both motors are EJ22.

It's usually best to go with what the car was designed for , installing an old used motor makes no sense either , you could go through all the trouble and the thing would quit on you , if the body's rusted out you may want to reconsider
Use the correct engine or spend hours and hours trying to mickey mouse it. In the end you will get sick of messing with it and sell it for $100.
The motors are the same. The wiring harness isn't. But thanks anyway.
Then they are not the same. Designs change over the years!
