2004 Cadillac SRX Transmission Slipping ...
Asked by Curious2112 Jun 08, 2017 at 03:47 PM about the 2004 Cadillac SRX V8 AWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My daughter recently purchased a 2004 Cadillac SRX which she dearly loves. At the time of purchase her dash display showed 15% life left in transmission fluid. She continued to drive it with no apparent problems well after it went to 0% - until suddenly, a couple of miles from home, the transmission started slipping. She limped home, experiencing high RPM. My question: Is the transmission totally shot, or could it possibly be revived by replacing the transmission fluid?

Replying to tennisshoes ... Based on your textbook answer, I'm not sure you really read my question. According to the dashboard LED showing "0% life left in the transmission fluid" and the transmission failure itself, I KNOW the transmission fluid is "SHOT", but is the transmission unquestionably "SHOT". Cadillac and Aamco say "absolutely YES, and a complete rebuild will be required". I'm simply hoping to get an unbiased answer from an expert here at CarGurus.
Change out the fluid if it makes you feel better but it will almost certainly be a waste of money.
If two experts have already told you it is shot you are grasping at straws. Count tennis as an "expert" too so you really have 3 expert opinions.

My 2004 SRX did the same thing, turns out it was low on fluid. No way to check fluid level without getting under car. Topped up fluid and it runs like a champ.
when the item is showing on the dash take and hold the reset button for 10 seconds and it will reset
My srx its shift good but when its time to slow down it kick back a least 3 times is my transmission going.
