car won't shift into final gear
Asked by clintvioc Nov 01, 2013 at 12:07 AM about the 1999 Chrysler Sebring LX Coupe FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
ok so i have a 1999 chrysler sebring it has a new transmission in it. it will. not shift into
the final gear goes through the first couple gears with ease doesn't kick or anything. i was
told it is in fact a sensor. along with if you are crusing and put it into neutral it will almost
feel like a break but there is not movement into the rpms what could cause this
transmissions maybe got 200 miles on it.

never gets to "top gear" is what you're saying? this may well have a CVT component so speed is not related to engine speed~....all that much~
yes exactly it won't shift at all i can get up to 65mph but the rpms will just keep going up
how would i find out if this has a cvt component? thank you
migration_judge_roy answered 11 years ago
65 mph = 3300 RPM??? does that sound right?~
What do you mean by new is it a rebuilt or remanufatured or one from a salvage yard? Plus does it have the over drive with the lock up converter? And is the torkck converter matched to the tranny?
Roy did they have the CVT back in 1999? I thought those came out in the later 2000'S

okay....we don't know which tranny you've got..here's a list~ 2005–present Chrysler NSG370 transmission — 6-speed overdrive manual transmission New Process Gear NP435 — 4-speed manual 1987–1991 New Process Gear NP535 (also known as New Venture Gear NV2500) — 5-speed manual New Venture Gear NV1500 — 5-speed manual 1994–2004 New Venture Gear NV3500 — 5-speed manual 2000–2004 New Venture Gear NV3550 1992–2005 New Venture Gear NV4500 — 5-speed manual 1999–2005 New Venture Gear NV5600 — 6-speed manual
remanufactured car only has 134,000 it has overdrive and does match the tranny
Sounds like it auto to me not a manual trans
i'll have the transmission in 5 to 10 minutes be right back.
I WOULD BRING IT BACK TO WHO EVER INSTALLED OR WERE EVER YOU PURCHASED IT FROM SOUNDS TO ME LIKE THE SENSORE FOR THE OVER DRIVE IS NOT WORKING RIGHT OR MAYBE A SIMPLE TUNE UP OF THE ENGINE IT SELF?
What do you mean you will have the trans in 5 to 10 minuts?
well i just called the guy and he said he took it on a drive, blew off one of the fixed lines and fixed it and said it lost reverse and neutral. both of those work now. what would the overdrive sensor run in pricing estimated that is? and simple replacement or better to have it done by a different mechanic?
If it is a remanufatured tran. How does it have 200 miles on it? Are you sure it is not 20,000 or 200,000 miles on it?
well the mechanic told me it had 200 miles on it
I would go to a different mechanic if he installed it and one of the fixed lines bew off. I would question his ability. Do not know what that sensore would cost or I do not know where it is located some are on the out side of the trans and some are inside the trans

If it's that easy, give the guy 15 bucks for the part and have HIM put it in~

no joke remove battery gound wire and remove breather air box unscrew bolt on top of wiring plug connector and move out of the way remove 3 bolt on top of solenoid and remove old unit clean well install new solenoid with gasket attached to it bolt into place tork to 12.5 ft pounds reconnect ground wire and start car read transmission fluid level and use proper fluid specified for your car Good Luck
