my 99' sebring was low on trans fluid and I put a half quart of the wrong fluid in. my trans went into "limp mode" (stuck in 2nd gear). i did a complete trans flush and this did not fix the problem. the transmission is still stuck in 2nd. can somebody please give me a solution that will not require replacing the trans?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my car was shifting hard into third gear and i checked the trans fluid to notice it was low. i added a half quart of mercron and my car started acting up horribly having a hard time shifting into any gears. it then went into what is called limp mode, where it only has second gear and found out that sebrings only takes a certain kind of trans fluid. I bought the correct fluid, did a complete trans flush and this did not correct the problem. Can somebody please give me a remedy to fix this problem without replacing the transmission?

Have you tried resettig the computer by disconnecting the battery cables for a couple minutes and then hooking them back up ?

First of all, when you did your trans flush, did you flush all the old fluid out? I've seen people flush 8 qts out of a 14 qt truck transmission and call it a complete flush, usually some yahoo at meineke or jiffy lube or some other place to never take your car. If this isn't the case and you flushed it completely and correctly, then I would suggest disconnecting your battery and pulling the computer fuse for a minimum of 15 minutes. Then get in and drive to check.

THE SOLONOID PACK ON THE FRT OF THE TRANS IS PROBABLY STICKING AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, ASSUMMING THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE PAN THAT WOULD INDICATE A TRANS HARD PART PROBLEM

Trans shift solenoid...same problem with my gfs 2009 2.7 Sebring GTC. I didnt do a complete trans flush, only changed out trans filter and replaced 5qrts of fluid. It really should have a complete flush. Anyhow, it seems to have fixed the problem for now...but If she drives it enough to heat up the trans real good, and it will throws the chk engine light, and then goes into limp mode( not go beyond 3rd gear) then that will mean I'll have to replace the trans shift solenoid for sure. Apparently a very common issue in the Sebrings. Hell any Chrysler lol. AND yes Chrysler trans are extremely touchy/picky about what fluid it will operate properly on. ATF 4+
