How to remove the alternator on my 1998 Chrysler Sebring Convertible?

The car died on Sunday. Tried to jumpstart it yesterday,as soon as we took the jumper
cables off it shut down. Would like to get the alternator off to take it to be tested,but
need to know how to remove it. If anyone can help me out or have any other
suggestions for what to check for or replace to get my car running again,I would be so
thankful.

Good call tom, I own a 98 and recently had the same problem and it turned out the battery connection was dirty, to check connections chock wheel (rear) set brake jack up car drivers side remove drivers tire, left front bumper contains the battery behind a black cover you should see a pictoglyph of a battery a push plug (plastic) 8mm screws hold cover on three on bumper cover edge one in the plastic cover (top) . Still need help hit us up

Should it become Ness to replace alt complete the previous step, disconnect pos on battery, alt is top of engine closest to you w hood open using a 15 mm wrench you'll see a pulley loosen nut in front of pulley and behind edge of same pulley is an adjuster loosen (right tight left loose) this will free the belt remove belt the alt is placed w two 15 or 14 mm loosen top remove bottom this will allow the alt to rotate to access bat connection, remove main connection unplug field stator and exiter plug remove bolt (top) now reverse if it tests good. Hope that's the answer you were looking for.

Ca we have been trying this for about a week. Still can't get that bolt out. What's so bad is I just replaced this alternator about a year ago, and it went out again.
For those of you who can't figure out how to get to the bottom rear bolt, use a 15 mm deep well socket (Long socket) and a 3 inch extension to get the bolt loose. While on back looking up at an angle between frame at radiator looking up to your right at bottom right of alternator you can see the bolt head. Just slide the deep well and extension up over the O2 sensor and leave it hanging there. Then slide back to look through the open area just behind the radiator you can then see to get the socket on the bolt. A little tricky but better than removing sensors or A/C pump...
