Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Please make note for you readers on Cadillac SRX
‘s in most cases were the radiator fan stays running
just add antifreeze to the radiator reserve tank and
in most cases this will solve the problem of the fan
running all the time. It is not the relays pull the it will
stay running they are bypassed when the coolant
level is low and the sensor switch will not open. So
everything is normal after just doing that simple
thing

2012 SRX if radiator fan stays running and doesn’t shut off 1st thing to do is top off you radiator reserve tank. This in most cases will resolve that fan problem. There is a coolant level sensor switch somewhere in the cooling system if it senses coolant to low it bypasses all fan relays (pull them fan will stay running it drove me crazy). I added antifreeze and wahlah everything went back to normal.just saying try this first. The dealership wanted to charge me $800 just for the fan not installed they tried to tell me it was shorted NOT it was fine that mechanic was shorted lol.

Mine just started doing the same same thing on my 2013 XTS, added some coolant (although it didn't look low) but it didn't work.....I know when it goes to the garage they'll tell me I need a new fan motor temp gauge is o.k....not running hot

This is how I went about making the repair. Always check your coolant first.

I topped my tank off and that didn't do it. I pulled the fuse and it was OK. Put the fuse back in and the fans cut off. Working like it should now.

I was charged $3700 by the dealer to fix his problem. Seems to be working OK now but I feel that I was ripped off

I replaced the two smaller fan fuses last year when the fan refused to stop and my battery dies before I realized this. That fixed it. It just happened again and I did fuses again and added coolant. It took some driving around today for it to stop when I turned the car off but that worked. I've read elsewhere that some folks have spent thousands through the dealers replacing parts unnecessarily. Yikes!
