Sometimes when I stop at a red light my 1996 cirrus makes a grinding noise. If you put the car in park or neutral it stops. What is causing this

Hi esmith! Noises are very hard to track down without hearing them. Your noise could be anything from a vibrating exhaust pipe to an issue with your timing belt or timing belt tensioner. If it has been over 70K miles since your last timing belt change I would look into that. I am guessing that your revs elevate just a bit when you take your vehicle out of gear which could make all of those symptoms go away. But there are also oil feed issues and transmission issues that could be in play here. Let a mechanic hear this grinding and he will probably be able to run it down a bit more for you. Good luck!
