Anti theft system

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was starting my car and key broke. One
part was in the ignition and the other in my
hand ... then the lights inside flashed about
5 times and the car went dead....
absolutely no power to anything...
someone was able to get the half of the
key out of the ignition but still no power ... I
had a spare key but still nothing... we just
started the battery and  it stared but now
it's hard to start. It's sounds as if the
battery is weak and it read 14.3 around
there like it did before but it has a hard
time starting every time. Sometimes I have
to try to start over and over before it finally
starts and my emergency flashers will be
on and my wipers and it resets my screen
for milage and oil life all the stuff is
changed and the ac won't come in for a
minute. I don't know why it's acting this
way ?? Is it the anti theft system? I using
the 2nd key that I got at purchase. I even
changed the battery in the key. I'm scared
it's going to not start and leave stranded
somewhere. Any advice anybody in what
could have happened when the 1st broke
in the ignition.... that's when all the weird
things started happening.... it ran great
before then

In the head of the key there is something like a chip that sends a signal to a sensor in the ignition switch. This is how the anti theft system detects theft by an unauthorized key. What I am thinking is the computer has been disrupted by the broken key and maybe you can reset the system by disconnecting the battery for say five minutes and try again. I'm not a computer nerd so this only my best guess. I hope this works for you.

I have actually tried that but I could try it again. I called the service department her in Corpus Christi were I bought the car and the guy Mike Perez. He spelled his name for me. Was a real jerk. He said there's no warranty. He said it was my fault not the cars because I was trying to inquire about a defective system or part maybe and the only advice without even so much as a care he said just bring it in and we'll look at it. He said its $155 an hour !! And then maybe they can tell what's wrong. He said that was just to look at it. Then he could give me a price on what it would take to fix it. I was so flabbergasted. The service department is not available. They don't call you back and when you do talk to somebody. I got him ... lucky me. Anyone with any advice. I'm desperate
