That happened with my truck and it was the fuel pump.

This is gonna sound odd.. but I had just got my rear muffler welded back on and on my way home driving about 45-50 my 2018 Chevy Sonic RS cut power and instantly cut back on.. I saw the gear output on my dash go to neutral and right back to drive. My rpms kicked up a little bit with no change to the gas peddle.. I came home and a few hours later tried to go to the store.. my car was dead as a doornail. I tried to pop the hood released the latch and my car alarm went off. Instantly got power back, and haven’t had a problem since.

My sonic does the same thing. It shut completely off and then fires back up again. I’ve even lost power steering a couple times. Chevy dealership acts like I’m the only person that’s everything had this problem. I’ve had a new alternator, battery, the grounds polished, new belt, and more. Still doing it. We have to start banding together to get these cats fixed before someone dies!
