2012 Ford Escape - AWD?? and click/rattle noise

Asked by MelodyOregon Oct 04, 2012 at 01:44 PM about the 2012 Ford Escape XLT AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Bought a brand new 2012 (had it 5 months, now has 5700 miles) ford escape. They said it was AWD but there are not markings on the vehicle (like the previous years) that it is AWD.They assure me it is the on-demand 4wd; how can i confirm?

Also, when I accelerate from a stop there is a click sound (not like a mechanical or circuit click but like something is loose) when i start to move. it also happens when stopping (when the movement of the car shifts from front to back or back to front). The first time I took it in they said "oh that's normal" but i test drove another 2012 ford escape and it DIDN'T happen, nor did it happen on a rental ford escape I drove for work. I'm really frustrated because every person who gets in my car hears it and asks about it. Has anyone had this issue?

look under car to see if it has a drive shaft going to the front two wheel and one going to the back to wheels if so its awd if it only has one drive shaft then its a 2wd car if it has two driveshafts then its awd
