MAF code /Engine light on

Replaced MAF censor. One month later (about 1500 miles
as I drive for a living/home health nurse) the same code
pops off with the check engine light on. Bought an OBD
reader and can turn the check engine light off but I really
want to fix the problem. The car runs and sounds so
rough now and seems like I’m going through gas faster.
Could a crack in the air filter cover cause this?

Wiring going to the MAF? Clean out the throttle body also. Yes a crack or the rubber hose splitting the difference between the air filter case and the throttle body might have a hairline cut or crack. Unmetered air getting into your throttle body will affect those computer values and in turn what it does to fuel metering. Make sure air filter canister Is well sealed. Also never touch the inside of a MAF sensor. Clean them with MAF cleaner spray and let them air dry.
You will use more gas as the car is running an open loop with the CEL on. Check engine light. :)

Air getting in somewhere, even intake gaskets ect. Your old MAF was likely good. When cleaning the Throttle body take it off and take out the IAC valve and clean both with Throttle body cleaner and an assortment of nylon brushes and install with new gaskets (air can be leaking in around there too). Look for vacuum lines bad. Look online for test to run on the sensor and or its wiring. To confirm power to it ect.
Yeah I have no doubt old MAF was good. Issue is still there
If you find a crack in your air filter canister, there are some good sealers from permatex that will seal this off.
there is an ecm update for this code but its only avaible at a dealership
