Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Greetings,
4 different shops assured my that my XL-7 needed timing chains and tentioners
changed. I paid $1600 the have new ones put in and the problem is exactly the same
i.e. Knocking sound + check engine on. Any ideas what the problem may be?
Thanks.

Hi, I am sorry; I should have given the codes. They are P0008 and P0333. Because we do not have Suzuki dealers in Wisconsin, and I was told that the Suzuki XL-7 2007 is a Chevy engine; I took it to two Chevy dealers and Firstone. Plus I spoke over the phone with a Suzuki service shop in Illinois and all previous told me the same thins i.e. the codes and the knocking sound all signs of Timing Chains and tentioners gone bad. To answer your question: the knocking sound is present whether idling or moving. Thank you for taking the time to help. P.S. Now that I have changed the timing chains, I am going for the rest one thing at a time: spark plugs then water pump then alternator then ???? until hopefully I get to the bottom of it. I am hoping it is not a piston or something like that :-( Ahmed.
