Knocking Noise in 2012 Chevy Impala

Asked by Guru9DP34H Nov 13, 2020 at 08:55 PM about the 2012 Chevrolet Impala LT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

There is a knocking noise that started a few days ago. After looking up the
problem, I found that it is the actuator for the air, and it is an extremely
common issue with Impala's. By feeling the two actuators that could be the
problem, I found that it was the one on the left hand side when looking
straight in behind the glove box. This particular one controls the temperature
according to many different videos I have watched. I purchased an actuator
to replace it, but when I switched it out the knocking noise kept happening
even with the new one. What is my next step in fixing this problem?

Does it keep happening even with the heat/air off?

Remove the new actuator and see if you can move the air door by hand. There will be a rod like thing that fits into the actuator. Make sure you can turn it freely. If you can't, the air door is binding, probably because it's broken, and will need to be replaced. Hope that helps! Jim
