Suspension Clank
I have some "Clank" noises that I cannot isolate. I think I have a couple problems going on but I think the main sound is coming from part of the suspension. I was getting a clank and rattle sound on every bump I hit. I decided to replace the sway bar link rods and that helped a lot, but only when I hit bumps with my tires facing forward(straight). If I hit a bump with my tires turned, I get the clank sounds back. I can mimic the sound by just coming and going from my driveway. Also, I have noticed that when my car rocks back and forth from hitting a bump, it seems to make clanking sounds as well. Also, I've noticed that when my car changes momentum slightly, I get clank sound. For example, driving 35mph and I let off the gas then accelerate again. When I hit the gas to accelerate, I get a clank noise. I have no idea what this sound is caused by, I just hope that it is not a transmission problem. The transmission shifts great, so I am guessing that it is not the problem.
My thoughts are that maybe I have some bad bushings someplace, or my control arms are bad, or maybe the sway bar is bad. I am kinda guessing that it is not the sway bar because I don't hear the clanks when making turns or cornering, but I don't know. If anyone could give me any insight or tell me how I can check for problems, that would be great. I am capable enough to make most of the repairs myself, I am just not savvy enough to determine what the problem is exactly. All the clanking sounds almost sound like I have a few loose parts banging together.
