could be time jump as you sugested . it could also be something as easy as a bad connection some were or your starter being weak/BAD. FROM WHAT YOU DESCRIBE UNLESS I MISUNDERSTOOD IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR SAYING THE CAR WILL ONLY TURN OVER FOR PART OF ONE ROTATION THEN KICKS BACK. IF THAT IS RIGHT. ITS LIKE ITS NOT GETTING ENOUGH TORQUE ON IT TO PUSH THROUGH THE COMPRESSION STROKE. ID BE INTERESTED TO KNOW WHAT YOU GET DONE TO FIX IT OR IF ANY OF MY THOUGHTS HELPED

Do you have the factory Sentry Security System? I have an 03 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie with 5.7 hemi, someone tried to steal it some years back, without the correct key with chip, it will turn over a second or two and stop, imbolizing the vehicle... after 3 attempts to start is kills the system and a new alarm module is needed... your's sounds like a wiring or ground issue.
