Battery saver mode? You mean the battery light, right? Sounds like a charging system issue. There may be a problem with the alternator or battery.

Might sound a little off but check your serpentine belt. High pitch noise, smoke, or neither. My journey did the same thing " battery mode" shut off while driving... I tested the battery at home and when I did a current check on the alternator I was only getting 12v not enough to charge the battery of course so I decided to swap it out. Installed with no issues turned on the car and was getting the same readings and same dash error. I was looking at the alternator when I noticed the belt wasnt moving as fast as it should have been. When I traced the belt back the belt was pinched between the pulley nearest to the firewall behind the tensioner... The rounded edge on the pulley allowed the belt to keep spinning but it clearly wasnt right. I adjusted, restarted the car and no more error code, checked the voltage and it was 14.4... hope this helps someone from some costly repairs.

My Dodge Journey recently went into “battery saving mode”. Pulled over, all the lights on the dash we’re going on and off, windshield wipers going (even though off). We trailered the car, got it home, replaced alternator the next day. Started it and it was making a knocking noise. No problem, rocker arms bad. Broke into it, they weren’t. Pulled the oil filter, metal shavings. Just what doesn’t function when it goes into battery saving mode? This car had no issues before that. It’s a 2011, 189,000 miles, regular oil changes and maintenance. I know, old and lots of miles, but still it didn’t run long enough after battery saving mode came on for it to eat the main bearings unless something shut down before that.
