Is it true, if a 2001 VOLKSWAGEN,Jetta 1.8 GLS 4 cylinder with 160,000 miles required a timing belt the car wouldn't start

pump and timing belt kit

the timing belt is attached to the water pump so yes it is recommended every 90,000 km to have the timing belt replaced as well as the Pulleys hardware belt water pump and thermostat and tensioner. Which all usually comes in a kit regardless. for a 1.8 Engine you should come out of a VW/Audi Specialist shop with about a 1000$ bill for the servicing. If your vehicle has not had the belt done before you are dam lucky it has not already broke.
