Just got 01 Jetta and bottom dog bone
motor mount is broken and I was told that
the stress was preventing it from
going/staying in 5th gear ,reverse works
fine and I was told they were on the same
driveline . I just need an experts take on
this

maybe synchro's are gone or teeth missing on 5th gear.. I would take it to tranny shop and have it checked .. unless you are mechanically inclined and be able to remove and check gears yourself. http://www.vwt4forum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=22159
