2005 Dakota speedometer stopped

Asked by Bultacojim Aug 18, 2013 at 09:39 PM about the 2005 Dodge Dakota SLT Club Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I changed the rear end gears , not the ring & pinion ,used the same ones. I checked the
fuses all ok, the only sensor I could find is the one on top of the rear end. When putting in
The gears I did not know  the sensor was there.  Do I have to pull the gears out fix that
Sensor ??? It is the only thing I can think of that's caused the speedo to fail.

The one on the rear diff. looks pretty simple to change. Before changing inspect the wiring going to it and make shure it properly installed. This sensor can also give false readings if water has gotten into it.
