Does anyone have a problem with the trip computer display fading?
Asked by touringboy Jul 11, 2014 at 03:00 PM about the 2012 Hyundai Elantra Touring GLS FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I own a 2012 Touring and the trip odometer display started fading. I was told the whole cluster would need replaced and I would have to have a sticker with the original mileage on it as there is no way to to calibrate it. Any thoughts?

Mine has been replaced... now twice (once this year, it was also replaced last year.) Happened after the temperature outside is over 80 degrees. It is under warranty. My dealership sends the part out to calibrate the mileage. No stickers for me (at least that I know of.) Talk to a few dealerships if you have one in the area. Mine is good, mentioned to me that another local dealership was telling people that nothing is wrong.
This is the only problem we have had with our 2012 Touring. We are on our 3rd cluster in 2 years. Not sure why this happens.
Getting mine replaced for a 2nd time too. :(
I'm looking at my third display change--they can't get it right. The first two were warranty covered and now there's an issue with my warranty running out. They didn't fix it in the first (or second) place so we'll see where this leads. I love the vehicle for my needs but need to keep track of mileage.
I had mine replaced 3 times and have the same problem. Everything else about the car is great!
My part is on order so I can replace it for the 3rd time... Guess what??? Hyundai literally just came out with a recall to replace the odometer. FREE replacement. Finally. I am waiting for the letter in the mail to see if we might be lucky enough to be reimbursed for previous costs associated.
Did anyone get a recall letter for this issue. I have a 2012 and I need the FOURTH!! replacement. Seems to happen within every 20,000km.... Out of warranty now so I am very concerned. Love my vehicle but this is obviously going to be an ongoing issue every 20,000km! I only have 79,000Km
I am in need of a third replacement now. My car is great except this problem. My car only has like 52,000 kms on it!!
I have now had 4 instrument clusters on my vehicle. Happens every summer. Once the weather gets hot, the cluster fades in the sun. Clearly, this issue needs to be permanently resolved. Last August the cluster was replaced because of a Service Bulletin. Now the cluster is doing the same thing. Somehow Hyundai needs to find a permanent fix.
Should have bought a Toyota!!!

How much did it cost to replace your instrument cluster?
The dealership replaced mine for free every time. Call the dealership.
