no cable a standalone accelerator position sensor...not a tps~
it started missing for a week before this problem

Classic example of where man meets machine...there will be trouble~

took me a second to bloodhound this one out...not a TPS but similar effect...the accelerator position sensor got a bad rap from an injury failure, but they are there...yours failed by not givin' the signal...could have failed the other way and "FULL ON" accelerated while a little old lady was crossing the street~

I can check NAPA those are usually nearby and you won't have to pay shipping~...but you can too, "accelerator position sensor" 2000 Jetta GLS 1.8 turbo...they will fix you up, or order it and have it the same day.~

still will never understand the wisdom of "drive by wire" which is what this is~ still trust the damned cable (a more-or-less solid connection) instead of an independent device~...oh well seemed to work okay, 'till now~
My derby car's throttle had no response, but that was due to the engine shifting and the lines having too much slack
