What effect will it have on the battery?

A weak battery can be killed by running it down but if the car starts then you are good to go. Most of the time all you need to do is charge the battery or jump start the car.

Thank you. I started it for like 2 minutes and it was fine. I will know shortly as I am about to leave the office. I hoping it will be fine.

I always carry jumper cables so I don't get stranded and so I can help other people with dead batteries. Waiting for AAA can take hours!
