Dodge neon 2005 overheating

Asked by Crane1977 Jul 29, 2018 at 08:50 PM about the 2005 Dodge Neon SE Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello, I have a Dodge neon that overheats about
thirty minutes of driving. I have changed the
radiator cap, thermostat, thermostat sensor,
cooling fan are working, coil, wires, and plugs.
When I changed the plugs they were dry with no oil
or moisture on any of them. The car has not lost
any power, runs great, just overheats after thirty
minutes. The top hose to the radiator gets very hot
and firm. There are no leaks anywhere. I have lost
no antifreeze anywhere. There is no white smoke
out of the exhaust. I have started the car without
the radiator cap after changing temperature sensor
and there was bubbling in the coolant. I let it run
for 15 minutes and then replaced the cap. Before I
start dumping more money into this car. How do I
check for a failing water pump or blown head
gasket? I have no water in oil. No coolant leaks.
Please help. Thank you

Check the fins of the radiator to make sure they're not bent or clogged with bugs and dirt, it could be getting plugged up internally also. I dont know of any way to really test the water pump but you can take off the rad cap and wait for the thermostat to open to watch for the coolant circulating. The water pump is the next logical piece of the puzzle
