Your alternator went out or your cables are bad or loose to battery and alternator. With the engine running even with a dead battery the voltmeter on dash will be in the 13-14+ range, if not then you are not getting alterator power either by wiring or component failure, take it in for a load test. P.S. your battery may be fine but since going to test the alternator and possible replacing it I would also test the battery just be safe for the future, a battery close to its end of life can die soon after going without alt power for a while.
