Might be power steering pump low on fluid. Or an alternator under heavy wattage load. Alternator bearings wearing out on high mileage vehicles. A/C compressors make noise too. Check them with a stethoscope or a short length of plastic pipe to listen to each component. Automatic transmissions whine in neutral when low on fluid.
