Here's your answer, it has a timing chain. Theoretically, it should last the life of the car. Changing out the timing chain is a MUCH BIGGER DEAL THAN A TIMING BELT. I hope you won't have to do that. See attached picture.

Having a timing chain versus a belt usually means that you do NOT have to worry about it. Just regular recommended maintenance is all that is required.

Yes, this is correct and these chains "should " last the life of the vehicle, BUT, if you start hearing noise from the chain and rattling, you need to take care of this. Please be advised.

I have a 2006 Nissan Altima, 2.5. Mileage is just over 100,000. Both Nissan and independent have verified there is a timing chain. In addition, I do not think Nissan would advise, in a printed manual, to tune up at 100,000. I agree with all responses above that you have received. Liz

I have a 2005 Nissan Altima with just about 66ks on it. I don't drive my car too much. Should I be thinking about the timing belt replacement? Please help me!!

My name is Todd ! I’ve put three motors in the past year in three different 2.5 Altima’s! All three cars were 140k-147k! Timing chain broke on all three, destroying engine!! Two of these cars were well mantained!

My 2005 Altima has 440000 miles on it and has the original chain ,water pump and tensioner. I am the original owner so I know this as fact . I am just now attempting to replace the timing chain. This is a very difficult and time consuming project. I would not attempt unless I had the time and space and know how. The last time I checked the compression it was at about 385 K and within 5% of new spec. 180 to 177. So I just want to see how long it will last. Very impressed at this point . Manual Trans car can't be replaced. Oil change every 5K , Drive the car very conservatively use only Super Tech oil and filters. My average MPG is still 31.5 .
