2006 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL Need Some Help

Asked by Tonya Feb 20, 2016 at 08:48 AM about the 2006 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently bought this 2006 Altima last week,  the
guy told me it was making a roaring noise due to
the water pump going out, naturally it sounded
legit so I drive exactly 36 miles down the interstate
and it suddenly over heats.  I park it immediately
and leave it til the next day. Upon returning to get
the car I try to add water to it but it's full and won't
take any so I crank it up and drive it home.  2 days
later I go to the store,  kill the car and for some
reasons the headlights keep flashing on and off.
The next morning I go out to go to work and the
car won't start, the AT light is on,  runs rough at
start and idles hard at start,  and makes roaring
noise under the hood, starter is smoking when I try
to start it. And the over heat  problem aswell the
headlights.. Obviously I know the starter has to be
replaced but what would cause all the other
nonsense

I think your best bet is to get it into a shop for repairs, there is going to be more than one.

That's what I'm worried about :( I don't want to sink more money into the car than its worth or than I have. I've been reading and it seems the 2006 Altima was one of the worst cars Nissan put out.

My mechanic told me we should start with a starter, water pump & gaskets, oil change and plugs and wires... Sound bout right??? And some kind of system flush or something

The starter was smoking, and also the thermostat. Sound like your mechanic will have a handle on this.

Yes Tom he looked at it, the starter is shot, and he says that's where we should start, that way we can get it running again and he can properly check it out. IDK... I'm not a mechanic lol that's why I came to this site... I did however just order a starter, water pump, serpentine belt, plugs and filters for the car so hopefully that's a start :)
