2005 Dosge Stratus Sputtering

Asked by Caitlin Nov 26, 2014 at 07:52 AM about the 2005 Dodge Stratus R/T Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello!

I have noticed occasional sputtering
when first starting my car. it's a 2005
Dodge Stratus. yesterday, I was
parked on a hill and when I started
my car, the check engine light began
to flash and the car sputtered more
prominently than before. once I
began driving the check engine light
stopped flashing and the sputtering
went away. I drove 70 miles home
with no issues.

any ideas what could be causing
this? I have recently had the spark
plugs changed. also, I know that my
gas gauge is off and I track my
mileage for this purpose. my tank
was half full yesterday when I began
driving.

my mechanic suggested a few
months ago that the head gasket
could blow soon. I don't really know
what that means... do these
symptoms suggest that the head
gasket is about to blow?

The head gasket should be fine, unless you are loosing water, and the slight skip, could just be a bad plug wire,or coil getting weak.
