2012 Ford Edge - the lift gate will not open

The lift gate unlocks with the key only.  Not a power lift gate. When you press
the unlock on the key it makes a noise like it is unlocking.  But the lift gate will
not open.

The electronic unlock solenoid on the liftgate is bad, is the most common cause.
