Starting/key Issues

Asked by sbirman Aug 22, 2018 at 03:41 PM about the 2012 Jeep Liberty Limited Jet

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

- Upon key turn, starter runs and engages engine (turning over nicely).
- Engine does not kick, or fire up, but turns over at normal speeds
- When key is released, this engine turning over continues, but not starting.
- When key is returned back to run position all goes quiet (still not running).
- This is intermittent (about 1 occurrence in 50 start trys).  Start system works great most of the time, so is impossible to troubleshoot.
-  Anyone else ever see this?  What was the cause?  I suspect lock cylinder and/or electrical switch mechanism (buried in steering column), but no way to test since it works most of the time.

Thanks for your thoughts, guys.
