I just got a 2012 Dodge Avenger and the passenger side blows freezing cold air and the drivers side blows hot, is there a dual control I don't know about or is something wrong with it??

seems strange to me, but searches to help your car have all come up with a "blower heater resistor"...which kinda makes sense...I guess...does your fan blow on all speeds both vents...can you switch it from one vent to defrost or feet only? http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1502169,parttype,6557,a,www .google.com%2BSearch%2Bfor%2BDODGE

...really it's gotta be the heater control panel...if it's misbehavin'~ https://www.google.com/#q=2012+Dodge+Avenger+heater+control+panel&t bm=shop&spd=2273277373442508520
I had the exact same problem with my 2012 SXT Plus and the lot fixed it...... the spring on the actuator door was sticking and not opening properly

I have a 2012 Avenger; the heat on the passenger side of the car stopped blowing hot air. I took the Avenger in for a diagnostic test and was told that the issue was from casing sand clogging the radiator, heater core and the oil cooler. THIS IS A MANUFACTURES DEFECT. A flush of the radiator and heater core will NOT fix this issue. I contacted Chrysler Dodge (1-800-334-9200) customer service and reported the issue. I made it very clear that this issue was due to a defect and no lack of care on my end as the consumer. After three weeks of phone games with several case managers they agreed to cover $1000.00 of the $1237.00 bill. Though I don't agree that I should have paid anything out of my pocket I didn't want to back myself in a corner. I am very great-full for what Dodge offered; but disappointed that they wouldn't cover the cost in its entirety. The more Avenger owners that report this issue the quicker it will become a recall. I hope this helps anyone who is having the same issue. Cheers
How did you get them to pay for it or at least part of it, I talked to a rep and they said since there was no recall it is not a problem with Chrysler.
Heater core problems with the Avenger are well known....I have a 2011 SXT, waiting to be picked up at the radiator shop after a core replacement. Also waiting for me is an $1100 C bill.
I have a 2012 Avenger R/T that started doing the same thing. Took it to the dealer because I also paid $2,300 for an extended warranty and figured one way or another it was going to get fixed. The dealer figured out that it was in fact bad casting that caused loose metal flakes to eventually break off and fill up the radiator and heater core. Unfortunately the Contract company refused to pay anything because they know it is a manufacturer defect. Chrysler is refusing to pay anything because the car has 63,000 miles on it, even though THEY acknowledge it is a manufacturer defect as well. I'm not done hounding them, but I also don't see it going anywhere. Probably my last Chysler product.

I replaced the heater core/thermostat ($850) and the heat worked for about a week then started blowing cold air again. I took it back and they replaced the heater control panel. ($275). the passenger side still blows air about 50-60 degrees colder than the driver side. Please help!!!
Please fill out a complaint with http://www.safercar.gov/ or contact (888) 327-4236 and they will help you file a complaint to the manufacturer.
This is not a heater core issue. It is a blend door motor issue! The fact that you have hot air on one side means the air IS being heated by the coolant in the core. The utter nonsense dealers tell you to jack up the bill is why you stay away from them. The part costs about $30 and is fairly easy to install.

What is the part called my car is doing this now it's a 2013
Hunterbug1 answered 6 years ago
I've replaced the blend door in mine 3 times. Because it starts ticking. Does blow.cold on the passenger side unless I put it on recycle air in car? Even then if I feel it blowing cold I can turn the thermostat to cold then warm and it gets hot.
I have a 2011 dodge avenger.no heat on passengers side.ii replace an actuator.heat for 1 day.flash out.work for 2 days change thermostat.aweek.now I'm back to cold air.took it to dodge they.hookup it an they said it was the heating core.
I don't know why people are saying it isn't the heater core. I replaced the actuator on my wifes car. That didn't help. I replaced several, that didn't work. I flushed the car 3 times. Very, very good. I know I did everything myself. After a while I noticed it helped a little, but not much. After a while it did the same thing and so I told my wife to have the heater core replaced since I read a lot into the casting and sand. Yes metal flakes and sand come out. Lots and lots of it comes out when flushing. It is the way the heater core sits that causes the buildup on one part. After we paid about $1000 for replacement it worked for a little less than a year. It's now Winter again and the car is a 2000 Dodge avenger with just barely over 100,000 miles. I am not paying for this year after year. I hate dodges and have owned 2 and always had heater core issues. I now only buy Hondas. I have a 2007 Ridgeline and have never had issues other then changing the oil and it's at 157,000 miles. We plan to sell the avenger and get another Honda.
I have a 2011 avenger. replaced heater core and radiator. This did nothing. I cut the heater core open and there was very little sediment anywhere. I cut the horizontal channels open no blockage. This has to be a door issue just not sure??

Welp I'm sure confussed????Today was pretty chilly in my car... I'm outside sales and it's snowing, going to be cold again tomorrow.. cold on passenger side and warm on drivers side...
Mine started doing the same thing as others in here. If it was the heating core it would just blow cold air through all vent including the drivers side. I'm not about to pay $1k for that if its a known problem with this car. Manufacturers should have put a defect notice on this since they put it with every other problem (most of them don't even matter) with that kind of money I could put a down payment on something else that'll last.

My Avenger 2012 started doing the same. Hot air on Driver side and cold air on the passenger side. Will be heading to the dealer to get the quote. On the forums I read some one got covered by Dodge, I will try the same after getting quote from the dealer. Fingers crossed!
My 2013 Avenger is doing the same thing. Hot air on driver's side, cold air on passenger side. Does anyone have sound solid advice on where, who I should take my car to get it fixed? I'm a female and I swear they see me coming, I don't like auto mechanics.

Has anyone has issues with an actuator clicking behind the glove box prior to the heat going out on the passenger side? I was going to check mine as I’ve had the clicking for about a year or so now. Someone mentioned the actuator as well. Ok really hoping it’s a $30 part fix...
Guys, I spoke with Chrysler group about my Dodge Avenger 2012 heat issue. The support agent told be that if more people complain about this issue at https://www- odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/ , the this can become a recall. I am launching a complaint today. Hope all the other guys who had this problem will do the same. If this becomes a re-call, people who spent money will be issued a refund.

I just filed a complaint today. I have a 2012 Dodge Avenger. I paid to have my Heater Core flushed then replaced. I paid over $1100 plus $129 for a diagnostic fee. My extended warranty didn't pay for it. What a waste.
@NomoreDodgecars, I feel the same. This may be my last Dodge vehicle ever. I hope there will be enough complaints that trigger a recall and get us some refund. Keep your bills safe. Good Luck !
@redneckcountrygirl Yes! My passenger side has been clicking for as long as I have had the cold air issue! I have a 2013 Dodge avenger SXT. I’m hoping it’s just the actuator.
My 2012 is also having this heating issue. Warm on the drivers side, cold on the passenger side. Its tough when only half of my windshield will defrost :-/ I will file a complaint.
Dodge 2012 Avenger here. Coming up on about 95k miles, I believe. Just started the "cold air on the passenger side" nonsense. I'll file a complaint today also and hope that they step up...
2012 Dodge Avenger blows warm air on driver's side and cold air on passenger side. I called the help line number 1-800 334-9200. but they hung up on me. I guess Dodge vehicles are just a bunch of (goats).

I have a 2013 Dodge Avenger and it has 134000 miles on it. The passenger side is doing the clicking when I turn on the foot heater and the defroster. Getting annoyed by it. It only lasts maybe 15 seconds if that when I first turn it on. Are all of you having the same issue??
^ Yes. Having the same issue. Follow the link to file a complaint.

Well, gee wiz fellow Dodge victims. I just bought a 2011 Dodge Avenger and It's winter so I noticed the Heater issue right away. Cold on the Passenger side, Warm on the driver's side I took it right back cause I just got it from a Chevy dealer. They changed the thermostat and housing and flushed the engine. Got it back with exactly the same issue. They didn't check the passenger side for heat, just the driver's side. Go figure. They have it as I type this message right now. They give me a loner car and no charge yet so I am lucky so far. I will keep on them non stop untill they get this fixed or I get another car. Then I find this web site with all of you talking about the same damn issue. Why, oh why didn't I read this before I chose this car. To be honest, the car is beautiful other than this issue. I will come back and tell you what they done to fix it soon, if they can fix it. I paid $2000.00 for an extended Silver bumper to bumper warranty but I don't think it would cover this issue based on your letters. Damn good thing I noticed it right away.
Thanks Siva, going to the website now to complain... in the mean time stuff a blanket on the floor board ..... stops the cold air from coming through... lol
I've noticed something new that has been happening but I didn't think it would be the problem. I tend to hear water flushing randomly when I'm at idle or when I'm pulling out from somewhere. I was thinking it could just be random water just rushing off of somewhere but I realized I'm never parked from under the carport. I'm thinking it may be that my coolant system is clogged up. Does anyone else hear this sound? Check when you first start your car and when you're slowing down.
I have a 2013 Dodge Avenger (Springs Cab taxi) 2.4L & was having the same problem. I would get hot air from driver side & cold from middle passenger to window passenger vents. I have since replaced water pump & all vents are hot now!! Make sure to bleed system of air or you will get a check engine light. I got water pump at Advance Auto for $50 bucks w lifetime warranty!
Same problem here. Hot air driver side but cold air on passenger side when heat is on. Also had clicking noise so I replaced the actuator. Fixed clicking but didn’t fix the cold air on passenger side.
I have been struggling with this problem on my daughters 2013 Avenger. Clicking behind glove box and drivers side blows hot and passengers cold. Bought this hunk of junk during hot Texas summer and didn't check the heater prior to purchase. I've taken to Dodge dealer as well as multiple mechanics. They can't seem to figure it out. Replaced actuator and Replaced blend door. Not real sure where to go from here. Any updates would be appreciated. I will file complaint but, I know it won't help my problem.
I have a 2012 Dodge Avenger and last winter i noticed the passenger side had no heat also had the blend air actuator ticking. I flushed heater core and replaced actuator, soon had no heat again. I flushed the heater core every couple weeks to keep passenger side heat. I don"t know what to do next.
I am having same issues and also hearing water rushing when I start to move. Now I don’t have any heat at all though. Last year it was one side now, nothing.
Have a 2012 dodge avenger also having the same issue heating on driver side cold in passenger
Same here. 2012 avenger. Hot on driver side cold on passenger. I have a coolant leak as well
2012 Dodge Avenger with the same issue: heat on the driver side of the car but no heat on the passenger side. About 75k miles on the car. I also hear the water rushing when I'm accelerating from a stop. I bought the car last winter and noticed the problem. I took it to the local dealer who sold me the car and they said it was a heater core problem. But before they did the operation, the heat started coming out of the passenger side, so I told them not to go through with it. One year later, it's cold out of the passenger side again, so I'm back to square one. No fix yet.
Hi all, I'm having the same heating issue hot on the drivers side cold on the passengers side. Plus I can hear a rush of water. This started a few days ago! Yesterday I ended up with a low coolant warning turns out after some investigations under the hood I found coolant in the valley below the intake where the oil cooler sits. Turns out this is a very well known issue with the 2011 to 2014 dodge avenger 3.6l engines and should be replaced every few years as they tend to crack either expelling oil or coolant this is something dodge just dosent want to address. I hope this points a few in the right direction in repairing the issue. For me this may the cause of my heating issue guess I'll find out when I change it myself..
The problem is the heater core is mounted at about a 30 degree angle with the hoses on the bottom. This allows any air in the system to accumulate at the top, effectively reducing the usable size of the heater core, making it present like a plugged heat core and causing that water rushing noise some mention. It also explains why the problem returns very shortly after ANY service to the coolant system. The way I solved the problem was to thoroughly remove any air from the system, starting by jacking the drivers side as high as possible and removed the upper (as they come through the firewall) heater hose and inserted a funnel. Then I removed the air bleed screw on the thermostat housing. I refilled the coolant system through the heater hose/funnel. Once coolant began to flow from the air bleed without air I replaced that screw. I started the engine and continued to fill until coolant flowed from the heater pipe where I had removed the hose and then capped the pipe with my thumb. I continued to attempt to fill the heater hose, holding it as high as possible. When I could not fill any more, I reinstalled the hose as quickly as possible to allow as little air as possible from reentering the system. I filled the coolant reservoir, and continued to get the engine to normal operating temperature and ensured the reservoir was appropriately filled. KEEP IN MIND ANY TIME THE SYSTEM IS OPENED OR LEAKING, THE SYMPTOMS WILL RETURN UNTIL THE AIR IS REMOVED FROM THE SYSTEM ONCE AGAIN. I did this 4 months ago and still have heat.
Help, I to have the issue with no heart from middle passenger side to passanger dir and get on passanger side and defrost passanger side. If I put it on internal circulation I get some. Help, it's cold and I took it to Dodge and they said it was the acculator door, replaced it, gues what? Same problem. Now they say Hastert core maybe it'll cost me $1500 to replace that at 6 hours of labor and parts. Help, does anyone know what's wrong? Boise to fix this? I called Dodge warranty no help. By the way, my 2012 Dodge only had maybe 65k (approximately) miles. PLEASE HELP

I had the same problem with my 2012 avenger Bought it in April 2014 and that winter no hot air on passenger side. Car was still under warranty and they fixed it. Something about salt gotten into coolant system. 4 years later car started overheating. Had antifreeze flushed and both thermostats replaced at dodge. Your going to have to flush the anti freeze every 40 000 km if you want to avoid any overheating issues
Hate that others are being troubled by this but glad to know it isn't just my daughter's 2012 Avenger. Kind of put off that the person who sold it never mentioned it. Anyway. I am going to file a complaint also. Her car only has about 63K miles so there is no way this should be an issue. We need to make sure that if we see other sites with people posting the same issue, that we have them file their complaint with NHTSA so that a recall can happen. Yeah I was told it would cost $1,300 to fix due to needing to remove the dashboard.

I Sympathize with you my friend. The dealer in Grand Haven, Michigan screwed me over real good The issue is in fact the heater core. It is 1/2 to 3/4 plugged with sand and Iron files from the engine mold. Right from the Dodge factory. Yet still no recall. Shows you how much America has gone to the dogs and devils , Especially the crooked Dealers. Just so you know. Some poor suckers has spent the money for the heater core only to have the problem return again in about a year. from more sand and iron files in the motor cavity. Plus the heater core is on a 30 degree angle up under the dash and that makes it much easier to clog. The dealer had my 2012 Avenger for a whole month after I bought it and temporarily got it to blow warm air but never hot. Never. In 6 months it was ice cold on the right side again. No more Dodges for this sucker. I fixed it Myself. I bought a 12 volt heater that connects directly to the battery from Home Depot and Now I have heat. I filled in the vent and defroster and floor vents on the right side with rags so no cold air blows in from the right. Problem solved. I will sell the car as soon as Its paid off at auction. I WILL make sure they know about the heat problem. They will get the car for a very reduced price from what I paid the crooks.
tinytimcurry answered 5 years ago
Well there. You have 100 points of view. Take your choice. I know that it is not just air. I got every bit of air out of mine cause when the dealer gave it back it had the old air girrgle sound wishing thru the hoses. But I fixed that and still had the problem. Although the guy above is right , the heater core is on a 30 degree angle which makes it easier to hold air AND get plugged by all the crap the dealer left in the engine block for making the engine. I know what I'm saying. I tore the whole dash and the heater air exchanger unit right out of a 2011 dodge Avenger in a junk yard. It took 2 hours and I wasn't being carefull. I bought the heater core home and cut it in half with a band saw and there it was. Plugged solid by half with what looked liked melted metal or solider. Bad deal.
Attempted to file complaint with NHTSA, but wouldn't verify my VIN. I called and they said that they only submit complaints regarding safety issues and that this is not considered a "safety issue".
I had the same issue as everyone else - no heat on the left side of the car: replaced heater core, actuator, blend doors (all), thermostat, flushed 3 times, multiple shops and dealership could not resolve. THERE IS A CURRENT ATTEMPT TO START A CLASS ACTIONS LAW SUIT AGAINST FIAT CHRYLER BUT MORE PEOPLE TO FILL OUT A FORM TO GET IT GOING! Lawsuit Investigation: Jeep, Dodge Heating & AC Problems: https://www.classaction.org/jeep-wrangler-air-conditioning-heater-lawsuits "Attorneys have reason to suspect that Fiat Chrysler failed to properly flush the casting sand out of the engine blocks on some of its cars when they were made. It is believed that, as a result, the residual sand can circulate throughout the cooling system and settle as a “sludge-like” residue in the heater core, radiator and oil cooler. This is what may be causing the heating and cooling systems to malfunction and fail. "

Okay... so the actuator door some keep on suggesting and saying that’s the problem just buy a new one... you don’t necessarily have to buy a new one if that’s the problem. My 2010 Dodge Avenger R/T 3.5L is the same way cold on passenger hotter then hell on driver side. I flushed mine out with Preston heavy flush twice each time only got heat for about a week on passenger side during the flush process. When I put normal 50/50 antifreeze back in it started slowly going back to cold on the passenger side but due to the flushes my car at least will get hot if I keep the passenger vents closed and just have the driver sides opened. When the actuator door acts up or starts to click there is a very simple fix if you know how to take it out and know positive negative color codes. All you have to do is take it out when you do this check to see the back side where there is a cogwheel (could be black or white) look at the arrow on it and see which way it is pointed. If the arrow is not aligned with the arrow on the actuator then it needs calibrated (can just buy a new one for $30 on ebay) to calibrate it is very simple. You need some extra wire laying around perhaps or if need be get some 16aug wire doesn’t really matter the gauge as long as it ain’t something crazy insane thick lol. Also need gator clips (terminal clips, idk what you really call them I’m just calling them what I call them) get a 9v battery. Then connect one end to the 9v battery and the others to your clips, then clip them the the studs inside the wire socket part on your actuator if you don’t know which is which simply pop it open a little and see which one has a red wire to it and the other will be negative (connect negative first) when that’s connected tap the positive to the other stud and continue tapping until you get the arrows to line up. When done it should be calibrated and and ready to use and work like normal.
same problem heat on driver side, no heat on passenger side, have the heater core, engine, and radiator flushed out, in fact have the heater core flushed twice, replace the 2 thermostats replaced, yes there are 2 thermostats, new antifreeze in radiator, problem solved, i have to ride with heater on low it is that hot in car. total bill $330.00. casting sand is in motor blocking heater core, radiator and thermostats

Now they are saying it’s the heater core. Getting ready to fill out the complaint now. Something needs to be done all these cars having the same problem!!!

Same problem 2013 Avenger SXT heat on driver side while only cold air flows thru passenger side. Less than 50k miles. I’m afraid to go thru hell and high water to fix as some of you have. I will call dealer, file complaint and look into class action law suit. I knew I was a Chevy girl. What was I thinking?

ahhhhh why is this still happening mine does it too. 2013 avanger, not heat on the passenger side. its 2021 why it this still an issue that no one can fix or gave us an answer too this is ridiculous. some people live in freezing places and need heat. this needs to get figured out.
