AC stopped blowing cold air w/o warning. Compressor still engaging, no freon seen under hood leaking. Could it be a huge rebuild/repair?

Take it to a certified experienced a/c specialist. It could be something simple or something expensive. If refrigerant is leaking you will most likely not see it.

You are no going to see refrigerant leaking, I bet you are short on refrigerant go to Auto Zone and purchase some refrigerant get the one with gauge should be about 40 dollars follow the instructions and make sure you attached the gauge to the low side and I have a feeling you are going to need more then a car for a full charge
