Dodge Journey interior lights

Asked by Jeneher Aug 21, 2018 at 09:16 AM about the 2012 Dodge Journey R/T FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Recently my interior lights come on when I break without headlights on.    At
night they come on when I turn on my headlights and stay on.  Its very hard to
drive at night with all your interior lights on.  I have checked the interior light
button but it is not on.

My lights are doing the same thing in my 2018 Journey. There is a wire in the back that goes to the taillights that is accessible when the back hatch is open. When I play with that wire I can make them go off but as soon add I close the back hatch the interior lights com back on again. It is probably a shorted wire that wears out from the opening and closing of the back hatch. There should be a recall on it and Dodge should replace the wire with something more sturdy because it seems to be a common problem among Journey owners.

Dodge Journey 2009 has a dome light that stays on. It is a push in type to turn off and on but it stays on. Thinking that there had better be a recall on it.

Holy smokes, folks... I had these EXACT same experiences! So I went out and gently sliced open the rubber boot at the top left side of the open hatch.. and VIOLA!! there was a cut wire in there that frayed due to the man y openings and closings if the hatch... This one wire was responsible for: back up camera, rear taillight, hatch light, and most annoyingly, the fact that my interior lights would stay on dimmly while driving, (and even getting brighter when I stepped on the brakes... ALL FIXED WITH ONE WIRE REPAIR! Come on Dodge - this has to be a recall issue... very poor placement of the wiring bundle for the hatch... hoep this helps anyone else here! Thanks - Charlie

Thank you for that @guru9v54d4. This is the issue I am having and you are correct, this should be a recall issue with Dodge.
