Timing Belt

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I own a 2012 Honda Accord EX-L V6 with 60,000 miles. Honda dealer told me
because of the age of the car and not the mileage I should replace the Timing
Belt. Their price $985.00. What is your professional opinion?

well, I do know 985.00 steeeepp. ! Should be about 400.00-600.00 But don't mess around with timing belts on Honda engines they brake it brakes the engine so 600.00$ seems cheap, for the entire engine..? Also I don't let them just automatically replace the water pump while there at it.. The wanted to change the water pump on my 2001 accord and I got 100-k miles more on the original water pump.. Just FYI*

If you are not sure of how many Kilometers since the last timing belt change. then the advice is probably correct, CHANGE IT. Honda cars are great. But I am one of those people who had my timing belt go, it went shortly after they recommended the timing belt to be changed, but being on the road in sales i was a month over that time, and it went.... because I waited, the cost was about $3500.00 to fix the belt and the other issues that came up because of the timing belt breaking while driving. THat was about 18 years ago. I am sure that cost would now be in the $5000. range. So my suggestion is to find a good Honda Mechanic who has good labour costs, and get it done.
the comment by GuruV9DP2 is beyond ridiculous, please don't take what these ignorant people say as fact. You CANNOT do a timing belt job on those v6s for less then 900, period end of story. Sure, you can get a 4 cylinder done for around 600, but not a v6. Also, anyone who tells you that you shouldn't "automatically" change out the water pump is an idiot. It takes 3 hours to get to the water pump and if your timing belt is due, guess how many miles your water pump also has? that's right! the same as the belt....that is right in front of the pump so why wouldn't you replace it? Are you willing to wait until your car over heats then have to deal with potentially warped heads, a tow bill AND another timing belt job?
its takes an hour to get the whole thing apart. anyone who says different shouldnt be wirking on a toilet let alone a car
