Look into the meanings of your terms. ..If an engine turns when trying to start it, it is cranking....If an engine turns over, it's cranking. If it wont crank, it cant be turning over. If the starter motor is turning, but the engine is not, that's starter turning freely but does not engage. try re-writing and update your question after thinking about what it does when you try to start, and why did you replace the alternator, please? What engine and trans does it have?

Also, if the engine cranks but won't start, try verifying spark and fuel as well as fuel delivery.

Fuel pressure , pump runs or not, etc. plugs fouled, plugs dry, their coloration after being installed and trying to start, can help too.

tried to crank car this morning turned over then little smoke come from looked like next to battery then turned over again battery went dead again !

Sounds like it cranks the engine but connections are failing, over where you saw the smoke. You could remove and clean/service battery, fill it, wire brush etc. pull the bolts out of the cables and slide the red and black covers off. clean the metal for each on both sides. Your battery would be in the front wheelhouse. tire removed, you would pull the plastic section in the forward end of the wheelhouse or inner fender. while it is disconnected you can search the cables and where they go. each connection can be measured at less than .5 ohm or it needs cleaned, tightened or parts replaced. (battery cable disconnected during ohmmeter use) sealed batteries cannot be filled with distilled water, but try to push the caps up and off to check. wire brush the contact areas where the cables connect on the battery. See what is a loose connection or other concern and let me know, hope you get it to crank steady and start.

That's where I found the last stratus battery I worked on . it was a DOHC engine, and the customer had just made major engine swap. The engine uses up all the space in the engine bay.

oh, we replaced the battery bolts with better ones because the ones it had were a thread or two shy of entering and threading properly. We sold the car as soon as it was up and running because the mechanic could not stop laughing at the marvel of engineering he beheld. ultimately, it was replaced with a camry.

If your battery fails testing after looking at its age and condition. Recharging and load testing can be done, takes time and patience. if it is way old, sure.

23,920

Take your old one to turn in and get new cable bolts. Because I believe they cause the trouble.

re-reading, it seems "turn the key" is what you must mean when you say "turned over" to me turned over means the engine was turning and trying to start. That comes from the first use of electric starters. you no longer used a crank handle on the front of the car, instead, it turned over when you turned the key, but whatever.

Just trying to communicate without the confusion, sorry you have to yell.

took battery got it tested it was good ! Fuel pump good ! check fuses ! still wont start

Verify spark, remove a plug and leave it plugged in. put a ground source on the ground electrode of the spark plug. crank the engine. If spark is good , you need to verify injectors actually deliver the fuel. Your vehicle must not have any antitheft concern with a security system. But I have a dumb question, when was your fuel filter last replaced, and has there been any issues with adding fuel or tampering ?

A test light for injector pulse can be had at a parts store. if it comes to verifying whether the computer sends the signal, Many cars use the ASD relay as a path. you can substitute another relay that is the same but has a function unneeded to start and run.......The system service codes can be read with an OBD II code reader. the parts store can let you use one if you put it on a credit card. google any codes you read for definition, run pinpoint tests. Sensors can be out of range, unplugged, disturnbed, damaged etc. It would need testing for ckp (crank sensor) And cam (cam angle sensor) These tests can require a meter that can record. A higher end DVOM can work. U tube videos show testing if you need it. Throwing new parts on adds up fast. not recommended without a failed test. Save your old parts in case you still need them. Sorry it is alot of info. I will check later 2c how u r doing.

Checking in, hope you are finding spark, if not the issue? Hope you have injector signal. adequate fuel pressure and volume if you can measure them, and proper electrical connections. you were able to read an OBD II code to lead you to some tests.....You must have a good spark, first

Checking 2c where you are, must be acquiring the equipment and research. I would also mention if you have need for schematics or info not skewed by the internet mixups, the public libraries have pro auto databases like mitchell and library online can have some chilton info. Some haynes or clymer can be borrowed at libraries, motor and chilton for reference books (older) because computer info is supposed to be legible.

Ask a librarian to get your recalls and TSB bulletins for you or show you how to be clear of any pending issues there. It's kind of difficult to see thru all the ways and find your best. Your dealer can help verify things if you get confused. write down your vin and take notes, keep a clip board goin so you stay organized.

if the key turns and no power to starter. check fuses for ignition there are two .
