fuel pump install correctly without the push rod
i installed my pump on 85 dodge full size 4x4,318 4 speed , it is a
mechanical pump , not sure if i got it in there correctly, not getting gas up at
carb, check all my lines, drawed gas from line going to the tank, got mouth
full ,so i even push air through the fuel line to my pump to check for
blockages .

this might help the gentleman asking questions about his back firing after he drove a couple blocks , then spit , sputtering and back firing, mine did that same thing and i notice my wire going to my coil was loose they are two wires and one of the little nuts came off and let the wire bounce back and forth causing me loose connection , once i put a nut back on and tighten it up ,it was fine
i thought once i drawed gas by cyphering some through that line going to tank , and getting mouthfull , i was ok to put line back together , but once i did this i still could not get it to pump any fuel up to carb

I think the cam lobe has worn off , you may want to try an inline electric one . Try putting the pick up line in a can of gas to see if the problem is the line form the tank first perhaps
I have seen people install the fuel pump wrong, getting the fulcrum on top of the pushrod instead of on the end. I have also seen worn pushrods so they don't work the fuel pump properly. now if you suspect the cam lobe is worn then and electric pump is your only hope, but remember those pumps need to be close to the fuel tank as they don't pull very well. You will also need a pressure regulator at the carb so the pressure won't lift the needle off the seat inside the carb. Make sure you use the new mulit-fuel hoses when you bypass the stock fuel pump and on the new electric pump.
