Weird 2004 Dodge Stratus rough Idle Problem

Asked by Johnniez Jan 19, 2012 at 01:01 PM about the 2004 Dodge Stratus SE Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I Have a 2004 dodge stratus 2.4 Liter DOHC engine and Idles Rough.I replaced the spark plugs with Champion Plugs

(Idled rough with old plugs also,Old Ones were AC Ones) but seems to have no loss of Power. Acceleration is

Fine. Also seems to idle fine if Idle is at 900+ RPM,but runs rough below that(mine Idles at about 750 RPM).Also

seems not to idle rough if I Put in Fuel Injector cleaner or 104+ Octane booster in the Gas tank.So I'm guessing I

could rule or an Electric Problem.Only 2 Of the Plugs Misfire occasionally and usual Only 1 will when I get the

error codes.Engine light does not come on all the time either.Only if I let it idle rough for 3 or 4 Minutes.Other

wise driving seems fine.Any Sugestions? Could it be sticky Valves? I also so far went through 3 Bottles of Fuel

Injector Cleaner. So, If I Put a fresh tank of gas(87 or 93 Octane) in with out fuel injection cleaner, problem

returns.I would think my injectors would be clean by now if they were dirty? FUEL Mixture Control Problem Maybe?

Also seems to Idle fine when In Park or Neutral,Only really in gear waiting at a light does it idles rough(With FIC

or 104+ in GAS Idles fine in gear also).

Sray the intake manifold with carb cleaner or brake clean and see if the idle comes up, if so the gasket is gone.
