Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was on a highway at 70mph when my radiator blew out top right side. I have 196,000 on it and i checked oil fo coolant...none. Smelled radiator no oil smell. Mechanic is looking at it but said it could have pressure build up from a bad head gasket. My temp was right where it should have been, wasn't running hot at all when it just blew out. Radiator was installed by local mechanic 6 months ago and has a warranty.
Any clues what I am looking at?

Well here is an update: Mechanic added 1 gallon of coolant and pressure tested and found radiator was still good.( I found coolant all over the passenger side) but there is low circulation like an air pocket causing the engine temp to rise. Replaced thermostat still has a problem, but nothing explains where a gallon of coolant went since there is nothing leaking, no coolant in crankcase or oil in antifreeze. Thank you for your comments. I guess will see where this goes
