Im looking to buy my first car, and I just found a 2012 Nissan maxima with 227,000 miles for $3,000. Is that too many and not even worth buying for $3000?

I would stay away from that. It's 2016. That means in 4 years someone put 227,000 miles on that Maxima (which is classified as a sports car). That means 56.7K miles on it every year from date of purchase. If you buy, I'd take it to a mechanic to run diagnostics ASAP. I'd worry about transmission problems (since it's still a fairly new car the transmission will be pricey.) I'd refill all fluids, change your belts, battery, plus and tires as well to make sure I make it feel like those miles are nothing. So yeah I'd stay away but 3000 for a 2012 is something you can't beat. It's actually too good to be true. But you know how it is with those situations.
