Anyone else have a 2012 equinox who gm refuses to fix Lon recall cause I was over the mileage by ten k ?

Asked by GuruZSR6R Nov 04, 2017 at 11:09 AM about the 2012 Chevrolet Equinox 1LT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have been having major issues with my
equinox burns 5 litres of oil between
changes and gm will not honour the recall
on an oil seal in the engine! I have called
and received no help. Already spent 1500
trying to fix it was happy it was being
recalled. But because I commute was over
the limit even though I have been having
issues before the recall ! Any advice on
how to get them to fix my car and is there
an ombudsman who can help???

You used the term "litres" so that suggests you live in Canada or elsewhere. Getting in touch with GM and getting it repaired may require a different method and have a different result than in the USA. Most of us here are in the USA.

I have the same problem with my 2013 Equinox. I took it to Chevy. They did an oil consumption test for four months. Every time I brought it in to them during the test it was down oil. Finally I got sick of going in and being told that this is normal and just carry oil now and refill it myself at least a 1/4 quart every 300 miles - 1/2 quart just under 500 miles. Chevy says it is normal for the Equinox to burn a full quart of oil every one thousand miles. My mechanic says that is crazy! There is a TSB that talks about the problem and has a recommended mechanical procedure to verify if there is the problem. Chevy service told me that the TSB does not matter and will not do the test specified in the TSB. Don't expect anything from Chevy. Apparently the fix requires a "ring job" and they will not do that.

Keep on it with the oil consumption test. Went through the same case with my 2012 equinox. Oil is leaking inside the engine and burning up. Rings inside the engine are cracked and need replaced. This is a major job that Chevy took care of (1000-1500 dollar job) all covered by the company. Make sure you are within 120,000 miles or you will pay. I had all sorts of problems afterwards and now my Catalytic converter has been damaged. Do not let this go on. It leads to other problems
