When we engage 4 wheel drive you can hear a whining sound from the front
when you step on the gas. We just bought it 2012 suburban certified about
55k for mileage. Any ideas?

It could be the wheel hubs for the 2012 year it should have auto locking or "real time" 4wd. It could also simply be a bearing issue. Either way, when this happens, I always encourage people to NOT use the 4wd or drive the vehicle to avoid damaging the 4wd or Front End and have it towed to reputable mechanic. Especially if it is certified pre owned, I would take it back where you bought it asap!

We were on a driving trip, like 5 states and the whining was getting to us. My Mister discovered that the drive was set to auto. He set it to 2 wheel drive and the whining quit. Thank god. 2018 Suburban.
