Did you recently get an oil change? Sometimes the old rubber ring from the old filter will stick to the block where the filter sits. If you don't catch that the old ring is there, you will end up screwing the new filter right over the old rubber seal. This will eventually cause the oil to blow out all over like what is happening to you now. That is just one possibility. Grab the filter and make sure it is tight. Someone may have forgotten to tighten it also.
