The IMRC is a pcm controlled butterfly valve in the intake that the imrc control keeps closed below 3k rpm's to help increase low end torque. The valves are built into the intake where it bolts to the head and has a motor mounted to the outside that move them depending on demand, this motor can become disconnected or not be able to move for some reason that will set a imrc dtc in the pcm. You will need to verify that the parts outside the intake are moving when commanded and if the valves inside the intake aren't sticking causing the motor to not be able to move them. All of the valves are attached to the same rod running from one side of the intake to the other with bushings between runners that can wear over time. If you look at the throttle body blade think of it 4 times attached to the same shaft in a row. Inspect, verify operation, then determine if it's the imrc actuator or the intake as the primary cause.

Is this a Ford problem? I have a 2009 Ford Fusion that just had the service light come on and the reader gave intake manifold runner control stuck open bank 1

Has anyone fixed this issue?? I have a 2006 Ford Fusion with same problem. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the intake manifold runner control solenoid and the CEL is still on with the same issue I took it in for.

The ECU isn’t turning on the solenoid in my case. I can turn it on using my diagnostic tool just not sure why the engine computer isn’t commanding it.

Well I am not doing it the right way. What I did was look in the internet to see what is the most common problem with the P2004 and P2008 code OBD-II Trouble Codes: Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Open Bank 1. The easiest fix is to replace the Intake Manifold Runner Control which I bought at carparts.com for a total of $32.80. I hope this works tomorrow because the part arrives tomorrow.

I also initially replaced the Runner Control and reset the code. Seemed like the least expensive fix at the time. Runner Control was not the problem. Turns out I had a crack in the vacuum hose attached to the Runner Control. New vacuum hose fixed it! That was 2 years ago and the code is back. Hose is not the problem this time. I will check the running rod and bushings as Guy mentions above next.

I have a similar problem with my 04 Focus SVT. The sensor in the Intake Runner Control Module isn’t registering the low end position. It seems to be moving ok. My problem is not finding parts just like everything else on this limited edition vehicle that Ford stopped supporting. Does anyone know of a sensor from a different vehicle that would work? Time to get Cuban with it. LOL

Has anyone had success in getting rid of this code? I’ve got an 05 focus ZX4 2.3L and have the same issue.
