One of the best ways is to install a cold air intake and K&N air filter. These will actually increase horsepower by 5-10 hp and improve your gas mileage at the same time.
Your to big mods that will increase gas milage are like the guy above me said a CAI, this is proven to increase 9whp, the focus intake system is very restrictive especially if you have duratec engine. Also an exhaust helps. You will in theory get better gas milage if you drive the same. But if you drive agressive of course your gas milage goes down.
try looking around at reputable sites to find some kind of ECU chip upgrade... you can find them anywhere from about 40-200$, and theyre usually pretty easy to put in. Just make sure you get some feedback on which chips to buy and from where. This is definately a must do if you're looking for horsepower, and you should barely see a change in mpg.... the thing with computers in cars nowadays is that your car is designed to run so much better than it does, but all the rules and regulations stop your car from doing what it can do, so really the ECU upgrade just basically lets your car run how it was really made to run
A good way is to replace the intake system with aftermarket intake systems. If you look at your engine, the intake hoses that lead to you engine are rippled, this can disrupt airflow to your engine. Eliminating this can increase your horsepower dramatically and will even increase fuel economy. Another way is to get Pulstar brand spark plugs. They aren't even classified as spark plug, the company calls them pulse plugs. They produce a spark differently than other spark plugs, these plugs actually have a built in capacitor that amplifies the wattage charge 20,000 times more than conventional spark plugs producing a "pluse" rather than just a spark. This pulse will ignite fuel more completely and efficiently, which might add as much as 10 horses to your engine. Modified Mag actually did a dyno test on a Nissan 350Z, and found a 11.5 increase in horsepower when they installed Pulstars into the engine.
LMAO... not built in capacitor that would slow em down and reduce efficiency they have a coil to increase voltage (a mini coil pack) to increase spark propagation. And that much of a HP increase means they had the old ones gapped improperly... By increasing the voltage like that though they kill amperage and the spark they get isn't as 'hot'. Thats one of the ricer myths (A 5 horsepower every sticker type of thing). Doesn't really work but people will swear by 'em. (Like Nollogy wires! Are they still around?) They've only be advertised and tested in magazines that you have to pay for product reviewing... I'm sorry but untill someone does an actually objective tests at various temperature ranges to show any real data, then I say sham! smoke and mirrors. They only can produce as much energy as what put into them... There isn't a tiny nuclear reactor in there is there? Then how can they produce energy? They don't have a constant power lines so where are they getting this extra energy to do their work? If they work holly crap I need to start hooking capacitors in line with my house power since they create free energy apparently?!?!? No, the only objective tests I've seen have shown negligible power gains and drastic reduction in life span of the plug. IE they have a sharp point on the electrode which gives a more defined spark but is fouled easily. However a hotter spark will help since Ford did miscalculate the impedance of the wires, well it's more accurate to say they forgot a few variables in the equations and the coil packs as such do not produce the voltage necessary for proper spark propagation... It's a tiny difference in voltage from the A.E.M. units and the O.E.M. units but it does eat about 2-3 hp and better mileage... Get a Coil pack Accel or MSD, either works to correct this problem. Coupled with decent plugs gapped properly you should get about 4-5hp out of the engine and better reliability and gas mileage. If you think there is a slight chance of you ever putting a nitrous oxide kit, Sorry NOS for the fast and the furious kiddies, then make sure you get cooper or iridium cored plugs since platinum is a catalyst for nitrous oxide and will result in severe predetonation... Can't do much inside the engine since the lower block assembly makes removal of pistons while engine is still in the car hard has hell. (You have to pull the piston rod assembly from the top side) So high compression pistons are hard to get in. But if you want real power that's the way to go. Don't bother getting a chip for the car unless you plan on getting an After market cam's... If you do cam it, you need an aftermarket computer to run the thing. Forget the name of the popular one for the zetecs. If you do all the work yourself then that's where you'll get the biggest power gain is from CAMs. On this car, get an intake. If you can find a kit that utilizes a box, then awsome since under hood temperatures can get fairly high on these cars. That takes care of the AIr In. if you go the way of the cold air intake it is best to get an exhaust done too make sure you get an exhaust kit that also has the right amount of back pressure or the gas saving you would've gotten from downshifting will be gone. it is also better to get a header back exhaust so you are getting peak effeciency on your exhaust system. Chips don't do shit. Especially the ones that say they add 70+ hp with 80mpg.
First of all you CAN'T "chip" a focus. Second a good place to start is a CAI or exhaust. If you could get your hands on a SVT airbox and snorkal then that would be the best way to do it cause those have the best airflow. If you want to "chip" then you will need to get a flasher or tune. I got a pro-Cal from Ford. Comes with new colder spark plugs, then a cold air intake.Increased my horse power to 290 and torque to 355. I now get 27mpg in town and 38 onhighway.

CHEAPEST MOST EFFECTIVE...[REDUCED 0-60mph by 1-1.2 secs! ] With a carpet knife and scissors, cut a 10x10 cm hole in the carpet and material directly below the accelerator peddle (and floor mat if in way). This allows the peddle to be pressed further and really does give additional acceleration. Worked a treat on my Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec
shell 93 octane gas and a "dragon fire performance chip" after two weeks with the chip it has brought the 0-60 times down over of a second faster than before from 8.27 to 6.98 and it needs more time to get the full amount claimed 45% increase in horsepower and 35% increase in torque.30 day love it or leave it full refund if I do not want it.

Hi what if i dont care about gas milege as much what if im willing to sacrifice 10 miles to the gallon or more my car gets 35 normally now 31 i put fords most expensive plugs in big diff 10 20 mabee more horse power gain. But as i was sayin how much for cheap can i get power lol. Focus 2010 sport model.

Any one got the obx racing svt header on there focus svt do u see a difference with does racing headers I'll like to know?
Need to get my focus svt quicker thinking of getting a Mac light crank pulley cfm 67mm throttle and tune any one done this?

Anything you add, be it CAI, cat back, ect. bolt on wise is worthless without a proper tune. A prime example is my Focus ZTW w/auto. I had the following: better intake manifold, CAI, 2pc underdrive pulleys, fidanza cam gears, high flow cat, 2.25" MBRP cat back. Put it on the dyno w/out tune = 95whp/97wtq. With dyno tune 113whp /119 wtq. Tuner was Jerry, a Ford EEC IV engineer who worked with SCT early on.
There are chips for the ST and RS but nothing much for other models.
