Do I need to replace my blower motor if my technician says the regulator is bad.

Asked by GuruXZWPH Oct 03, 2018 at 02:37 PM about the 2012 Mercedes-Benz S-Class S 550

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The blower motor stopped working a few months ago and started again on it's own.  This time it did not come back on and dealership says the regulator is bad and we may want to change the motor while they are doing the regulator replacement to save labor if the motor fails soon.
Would a failed regulator shorten the life of the blower motor significantly?

I think the brushes in the blower motor are short causing the motor to work when they contact the armature and stop when the contact is lost. The regulator is probably good, the next time it stops tap on the motor with a small hammer or the handle of a large screwdriver if the motor takes off and runs it's the motor not the regulator, I hope this helps you.
